How to Draw a Bear Face
Here is an easy step by step tutorial for beginners on how to draw a bear.
You can color your bear afterwards to be whatever kind of bear you like, whether it be a black bear, grizzly, polar bear, or a panda bear. I hope you have lots of fun trying out this tutorial.
I have also included two more bear drawings to try at the end for those who want to create more cute, simplified bear drawings.
Step 1: Draw the Top of the Bear's Head
We are going to start by drawing the bear's head. Draw the top of the bear's head by drawing a small curve.
Step 2: Draw the Snout
Next, we are going to draw the bear's snout by drawing a rather straight line that connects to the bear's forehead.
Step 3: Draw the Jaw Line
Draw the bear's jaw line as shown above. Bears generally have more of a round face shape, so keep this in mind (as compared to a horse, deer, or giraffe).
Step 4: Draw the Upper Back
Next, we are going to draw the bear's upper back. Bears (depending on their stance) have a sort of bump on their back, which is due to their shoulder blades being more pronounced.
So draw a curve that sort of resembles a mountain as the bear's upper back profile.
Step 5: Draw the Lower Back
Now, let's continue creating a slope downward from the upper back in order to create the profile of the bear's lower back.
Step 6: Draw the Neck
Draw a line of fur from the jawline to where it will connect with the bear's arms.
Step 7: Draw the Underbelly Line
Next, we are going to draw a guideline for the underbelly shape like so. This is help us make sure the arms, legs, and belly are all aligned.
Later on, this line will be erased, so make sure to draw this line lightly.
Step 8: Draw One Arm
Next, we are going to draw one of the arms or forelegs of the bear. Make sure to almost connect the back of the bear's arm to almost the shoulder blade. The arms of a bear are quite pronounced.
Step 9: Draw the Other Arm
Draw the other arm of the bear like so.
Step 10: Draw the Back Leg
Next, we are going to start drawing the back legs of the bear. Make sure the upper leg (thigh area) is more rounded in shape. The knee bends back at an angle like shown above.
Step 11: Draw the Belly
Next, we are going to draw the actually belly. Make it furry with little lines.
Step 12: Draw the Other Leg
Draw the other back leg of the bear as shown above.
Step 13: Draw the Ears
Draw the round ears of the bear at the top of the bear's head.
Step 14: Draw the Eyes
Draw the bear's eyes. It should be aligned to the corner where the bear's snout connects with the bear's forehead.
Step 15: Draw the Nose
Draw a black upside-down triangle for the bear's nose.
Step 16: Draw the Tail
Draw a little round bump for the bear's tail
Step 17: Erase the Underbelly Guideline
Erase the underbelly guideline we drew initially in Step 7. Also draw an adjustments you need to make to the bear's chest and belly area.
Step 18: Draw the Neck Fur
I wanted to make the fur on the bear's neck more pronounced, so I added a fuzzy curve-line around the bear's neck area.
Step 19: Draw the Claws
Draw the bear's claws on each paw. Bears have 5 claws on each of their toes, but since this is a side-profile drawing, you don't have to draw all 5 claws.
Step 20: Add Extra Details
This is the last step of our bear drawing! Draw an little extra details you want to add to your bear drawing. I added little tufts of fur here and there and shadows especially around the bear's belly.
